Yahoo.ca POP settings

November 12, 2008

For some reason, Yahoo.com does not allow you to connect to your email via a client such as Outlook without paying a yearly fee, but Yahoo.ca does. They’ve got no complaints from me.

In Outlook, use the following settings… under Account > Account Settings, click “New”

sh

on the bottom right, click “more settings”.

sh03

click the “outgoing server” tab, and change these settings.

sh05

on the “advanced” tab, change the above settings, then keep clicking the “ok”‘s until your back in your inbox.

Outlook rules stopped working

May 16, 2007

You can run them manually if they no longer run automatically. You may be able to fix the problem with the following command, but you may lose your rules in the process.

outlook.exe /cleanprofile

Here’s another method from techyforums.com

If your rules have stopped working or are working inconsistently then it could me due to a corruption in your data file. Luckily there are a couple of built in tools that should be able to fix this problem.

Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 and there should be to exe’s:

  • scanpst.exe
  • scanost.exe

Close down Outlook and make sure that any Outlook processes are also closed then put the above exe’s one at a time.

Disable Preview Pane in Outlook

April 10, 2007

(may vary slightly by version)

You can change your default view by going to
View-> Arrange By-> Current View-> Define Views…
Here you can edit the default Messages view. Since modifying this view
doesn’t effect the folders you already have modified I recommend defining a
new view and apply that view on first use of the folder.

If you want to only disable the Preview Pane in individual folders, make sure the folder is selected. Go to ‘View’, then ‘Preview Pane’, and choose ‘off’.
